Police in Thika Sub-county are probing an incident where four alleged thugs were caught in possession of stolen items at Witeithie market.
The items which included electronics and clothes were found in a rented house believed to be the thugs’ operating den.
Thika police boss Shadrack Maithya said the AP at Witeithie post received information from a resident who found them stealing from her neighbour last night. The victim had allegedly gone to work a night shift as usual and the neighbour who was going to the loo noticed someone was inside the house.
She called Sergeant James Linguli from the Witeithie AP post and he immediately conducted a raid
“I alerted my officers and we went for a raid but on arrival they were on their way out and we decided to follow them to their residence where we shot at them after they tried escaping. One of them who is being held in police custody surrendered and we arrested him,” said Sergeant Linguli.
However, Peter Maina 33, the man in custody and a qualified PSV driver remained calm saying that he had just arrived from Murang’a to visit his brother and help them shift his friend’s belongings only to find out later that they were stealing. Maina’s brother allegedly escaped with a bullet injury.
“Investigations are underway and we are sure to bring each culprit to book,” Maithya said.
The police are interrogating Maina to get any information about the gang that has been harassing residents of Witeithie for a period now
“I urge any member of the public with any information of the hiding or whereabouts of the suspects to contact any of our officers and we will act with speed,” Maithya assured.
