Celebrations took over along the streets of Witeithie Estate on Monday evening when one of their sons scooped 420 marks in the just announced Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE) and is assumed to be among the tops candidates in the country.
John Kanyi Maina 14, is said to be one of the brightest pupils in the school after he lip frogged index one who managed to get 417 marks in the National Examination.
The Highway Escape academy pupil reveals that hard work and persistence was the key to emerge among the top pupils in the country.
Kanyi said that his fellow pupils believed in him and the support they provided him made him victorious adding that he had hope in himself throughout the schooling period.
“My friends believed in me and their support was vividly proven by providing me with past papers from renowned schools that boosted my performance,” Kanyi said.
He said that his dream is to join Starehe Boys Centre in Nairobi and he will not tire to fulfill his dreams of being an engineer.
He lauded the teachers and parents for providing ample and conducive environment for learning which he says it boosted his morale.
The victorious youngster who comes from a humble background believes poverty will not hinder his success and has called on all well wishers to support him on the journey towards his academic excellence.
He however challenged other pupils to avoid drugs and substance abuse which according to him is a highway towards failure and miserable life.
“I appeal to my counterparts who are still in school to avoid misuse of drugs which will later result to failure and poverty in the family,” he added.
Kanyi has promised to even do better in the ‘O’ level at Starehe School and believes after four years his name will still shine due to the hard work he has implanted at the primary level.
He revealed the secret of his good performance is studying, studying and studying and rubbished any kind of cheating in exams.
