After long a long struggle to bring leaders from western Kenya together, COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has apologised for uniting the Luhya leaders to be in the the Opposition.
That effort saw Western elected officials choose ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi to be the spokesman of the Luhya community.
But after the Luhya community was given a raw deal in NASA and Mudavadi refused to take part in the illegal swearing in of ODM leader Raila Odinga, political analysts are asking questions on what the community should do next in its quest to be part of government.
Mr Atwoli, a seasoned crusader of the rights of workers in Kenya, has said he will never support Mudavadi again. Does this mean the elusive Luhya unity is gone for good?
After the mock swearing in of Raila, NASA principals Moses Wetangula and Mudavadi were openly ridiculed by ODM leaders and their supporters, and finally told they add no value to the Opposition coalition.
That has made it increasingly unlikely for the two seasoned politicians to continue staying in NASA when it is clear Raila and his ODM party will not honour the pre-election agreement.
There is talk of the two Luhya leaders teaming up with Kalonzo to support Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid in 2022, in a move that is sure to form government.
With the three co-principals appearing keen to leave NASA, only ODM will remain in the coalition.
