Ms Ley said the directive is backward and aimed at intimidating the Opposition who have vowed despite a court order to press on with the removal of IEBC Commissioners from office.

She said the order is in bad faith and is aimed at exposing political leaders during demonstrations.

She said that IG will be held responsible in case of any harm to any political leader when they resume the march to IEBC offices protests on May 9.

“If they withdrew the security details and something happens to Raila, then the IG will be held responsible,” she said.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Kisumu in the company of Kabondo Kasipul constituency MP Silvance Osele, Ms Ley noted that the aides are assigned to them for protection and termed the move for their withdrawal suspect.

Mr Osele on his part noted that the Constitution protects citizens who take part in peaceful demonstrations.

“What Cord and its supporters are doing is not illegal since it is anchored in the Constitution. We will continue picketing,” he said.

The MP said Cord has just taken a break to honour the late First Lady Lucy Kibaki after which they will resume the push to have the IEBC reconstituted.

Osele maintains Cord will not pursue removing the IEBC Commissioners through Parliament due to tyranny of numbers coupled with Opposition MPs crossing over to work with the Jubilee administration.
