A retired Judge based in Kisii Walter Omanga has warned Kenya of dire consequences if she withdraws from the ICC.
Omanga cautioned of a possible misuse of powers by the political leaders.
“Kenyans should not be pleased about withdrawing from the ICC which acts as the people’s watchdog," said Omanga.
"The powerful and politicians will only serve to benefit from the withdrawal and leave the citizens vulnerable to exploitation and abuse of their rights,” he added.
He added that we should not be quick to judge the ICC following the withdrawals of the cases of Joshua Sang and the deputy President.
“The ICC is supposed to be a last resort. The cases of 2007 election violence were referred to the ICC since the Kenyan courts did not have the internal capacity to address the situation. It thus raises concern to withdraw from the ICC,” he said.
