[Photo: the-star.co.ke]A witness and friend have narrated how a Kiambu politician was shot dead on Saturday dawn by a policeman inside his car in Limuru town after meeting colleagues at a club.William Mwangi, who lost Jubilee Party primaries for the Lari-Kirenga ward representative race, is said to have been shot at close range when he left Club U-Turn at about 3am.The policeman, according to the deceased's friend, had demanded to have a free beer from the table Mwangi and friends were drinking on, but they declined to let him join them.“The problem started when the gentleman demanded to drink a bottle of beer but we asked him to pay for it. He asked us if we knew who he was and told him Kenya is a free country guarded by law. We didn’t know he was an officer," Mwangi's friend who did not want to be named said as quoted by the Star. The friend said he met the officer in a corridor while he was leaving the club after which he asked Mwangi and the others to leave too after he got suspicious.“As I drove off, I heard gunshots. I was called by one of our friends who told me Mwangi had been shot dead. I drove back," he says.Bar manager George Karuga confirmed this, saying the officer was left with a facial injury after the pub bouncers intervened. Mwenda Itheiba, DCI in charge of Limuru, says they have already arrested the officer.“The officer is in custody to help us with investigations," Itheiba said at the scene.
