Witness Protection Agency Principal Public Relations Officer Calvine Oredi  has revealed that they will soon be establishing their branch in Kisumu County to serve parts of Western Kenya.

Officer Oredi said that they are still shopping for an office space in the City to set a base and be able to discharge their duties from the region.

“Soon we will be in Kisumu, getting a space is in the process so that we can roll our services to the people of Western Kenya,” confirmed Oredi.

He said that protection of witnesses remains a fundamental human right as clearly outlined in the Bill of Rights, therefore the need to have branches in almost all parts of the country.

He said that Article 48 guarantees the right to access to justice while Article 9 provides for the need to have legislation to provide for protection, rights and welfare of victims of offences.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu ahead of a media briefing slated for Thursday, Oredi said that the CEO of the Agency will brief the media on its role as enshrined in the Witness Protection Act 2006.

He said that the Agency provides special protection, on behalf of the State to persons in possession of important information and who are facing potential risk or intimidation due to their co-operation with prosecution and other law enforcement agencies.
