The Bill seeks the creation of a Witness Protection Agency for special protection of people with important information but who face risk and intimidation on account of cooperating with the prosecution and other security agents.

Uhuru also signed the Bribery Bill 2016 which was passed by the National Assembly on December 1.

The principal objective of the Act is to extend the fight against corruption to the private sector by equally criminalising bribery in the sector.

The Bribery Act 2016 also provides for an effective co-ordination and accountability framework in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of acts of bribery.

Also assented to six other bills that included the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2016, the Contempt of Court Bill 2016, the Universities (Amendment) Bill 2015, the Insurance (Amendment) Bill 2016 and the Kenya Defence Forces (Amendment) Bill 2015.
