Police in Likoni have arrested a 21-year-old woman for allegedly sharing hate messages on a WhatsApp group.
Mwanahamisi Harusi was arrested on Friday by CID officers for allegedly sharing messages deemed to propagate violence.Harusi, a member of the ‘Sauti ya Vijana’ WhatsApp group is said to have posted a message warning the Gema community to vacate the area before the Idd-Ul-Adha festival or face dire consequences.Confirming the arrest, Likoni DCI boss Henry Ndombi said they have launched investigations to determine the source of the message before Harusi is arraigned in court.He said officers have been working closely with the Cyber Crime Unit to ascertain the source of the message which was sent by Harusi on Tuesday.“We want to know the exact source of the message, the suspect we are holding confirmed to us that she forwarded the message to the group so we are following closely to determine the source,” said Ndombi, as quoted by Baraka FM. According to the daily, the group’s admin was also summoned before the arrest was made.
