A four months old infant was on Wednesday abandoned by her mother and left in a retail shop in Machakos Bus Station, Machakos town.
Speaking to the owner of the retail kiosk known as Ndinda, she stated that a woman had approached her to help hold the baby as she rushed to the washrooms nearby and though she had doubts, she did it out of sympathy.
"It was at around 11 a.m almost midday when a young woman approached me as I was seated outside my shop and begged me to hold for her the baby as she was pressed and needed to visit the washroom," said Ndinda.
However, her doubts increased when the lady spent almost 30 minutes without returning to pick up the baby.
"I don't know the name of the woman as she had just come as a customer but I can recall her face if I saw her," she added.
Confirming the incident, the senior chief of senior Chief of Machakos township Joshua Kimeu stated he had arrived at the bus stop and confirmed the unfortunate incident.
"I was informed by community policy that a baby had been abandoned and we have already taken the baby to Machakos level 5 hospital so that the mother can be traced by the police,"said Kimeu.
According to Kimeu, the woman can be traced following doctors intervention and the police have launched investigation and search to arrest the mother of the child.
