Police officers from Matutu Police Station in Borabu Sub County have been accused of shielding perpetrators of heinous crimes.
On Friday, a woman told hivisasa.com that area police officers have been intimidating her after she went to record statement over rape after being allegedly assaulted and periodically raped by a person well known to her.
According to Bernice Moraa, ever since facing the ordeal about two weeks ago, efforts to report the matter to the police station have never been successful. She said police on duty at the station have been sending her away allegedly for lack of evidence.
“I came out in the public and said that someone had raped me. He is well known to me and he has been preventing justice by working with police officers. They have dismissed me a number of times and prosecution cannot commence despite having medical results,” she said.
However, Sergeant Peter Musyoka of Matutu Police Station could neither deny nor admit the allegations but called for more time to investigate the case.
“I haven’t been told of any case to do with rape and this is the first time I am getting it. I don’t know whether my officers are aware but I need time to investigate the matter and take action on the accused officers,” he said.
Mr Charles Onyando, a human rights activist from Kisii, said he will soon sue the police officers in question for allegedly being ‘barriers’ to access to justice.
