An Eldoret court was on Monday stunned after a woman pleaded guilty to a charge of secretly burying her male newborn.
Damaris Ekiru Ekai had appeared before the Eldoret Principal Magistrate Harrison Barasa when she admitted having buried the child.
According to the charge sheet, Ekai buried the body of the child at their home in Kaptuktuk village of Eldoret East in the outskirts of Eldoret town on January 4.
The prosecution told the court that the child died moments after he was born under unclear circumstances before her mother buried the body secretly.
Cause of the mysterious death is yet to be identified.
The court directed that the suspect is remanded at the Eldoret Women's Prison ahead of mention of the case on January 10 for further directions.
