The wife of former Riruta Central MCA Ms Lucy Njambi was on Friday laid to rest at her grandmother's home in Karembu Gatundu South constituency.
Ms Njambi died on January 25 after she was allegedly assaulted and forced to swallow acid.
The family picked her body from Kenyatta University mortuary on Friday at about 3am following reports that her husband had obtained a court order seeking to bar the family from burying her at her grandmother's home.
According to Kikuyu customs, Njambi should have been buried at her husband's home since the two had a four-year-old son.
The family was however uncomfortable with that since her husband, Samuel Ndung'u, was believed to have had a hand in her death.
“We got information that the husband’s family had dug a grave and obtained a court order that they were planning to present to the mortuary officials in an attempt to block us from burying Njambi at her grandmother’s farm.
"The husband’s family wanted to bury her at their home in the neighbourhood,” Mario Nderi who is a relative said.
Security was beefed up for the ceremony since it was alleged that some people were sent to disrupt the ceremony.
Family, friends and politicians thronged the home to eulogise Njambi as a loving person.
“She was working at my parlour until recently when she cited family issues, which she did not disclose,” Joy Marete said.
Area assistant commissioner Faith Onyango urged couples to separate whenever they face issues within the family so as to avoid repeat scenarios.
“When a marriage fails, people should separate and learn to live with respect. The government will do everything in its power to bring the person who did that beastly act to book,” she said.
Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba promised to ensure that justice is served while Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria promised to look after her son.
