Police in Nakuru on Thursday morning arrested a  22-year-old mother of two for neglecting her children at Karumaindo in Lake view estate, Nakuru.

Veronicah Njeri was arrested moments after returning home from a drinking spree after neighbors discovered that she had locked her two children in the house.

“The woman is a reknown drunkard and has been locking her children in the house at night,” said one of the neighbors.

According to neighbors, Njeri has not had a stable job and a man believed to be her husband is a bodaboda operator who hardly assists her.

Addressing media, area chief George Nganga said that it has become a habit for women to neglect their children in the area adding that he will be very tough on them.

“The rescued children were living in unhygienic conditions and appeared malnourished," said the chief.

However, in defense the woman said that life has become too difficult for her and she opted to lock the children in order to find a way of getting money for their upkeep.

Neighbors said that men in the area have become irresponsible with most of them failing to feed their families.

The woman was taken to Bondeni police station together with her children.
