A One-day-old child was on Sunday rescued by residents of Katembwo in Nakuru Town West after she was dumped in a pit latrine by the mother.

The woman is held at Kaptembwo Police Station and will be arraigned in court.

The pub's owner alarmed members of the public after hearing the baby cry from the latrine.

According to Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman Nehemiah Cheruiyot, residents stormed the place and rescued the infant.

“It’s a miracle that a one-day old baby survived the harsh condition inside the pit latrine. The mother’s action cannot be tolerated and law should take its course,” Cheruiyot said.

The baby was rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital where she is in stable condition.
