A mother in Kawangware has been arrested for allegedly setting her 17-year-old daughter on fire.

It is said that the woman was issuing punishment to her daughter for coming back home late.

She was arraigned at a Kibera court on Wednesday but did not plead to the charge of cruelty and was remanded at Langata Women's Prison.

The court also ordered that she undergoes a psychiatric evaluation before she comes back to take plea.​

According to police reports, the mother willfully poured kerosene on the girl's skirt and lit a match in an incident that happened on December 3 in Kawangware 46.
