A woman was on Tuesday arrested for allegedly stealing a hen.
The incident happened in Nyandigwa village South Mugirango Kisii County.
Area chief identified as Samuel confirmed the arrest and said the woman was taken to Etago police station.
"It is quite unfortunate that women have began stealing in the village. We shall ensure that the suspect is takem to court and serve as an example to the rest," he said.
Mr Samuel praised area nyumba kumi officials led by David Ayienda for rescuing the suspect from angry residents who wanted to lynch the suspect.
"The suspect could have been lynched were it not for area nyumba kumi officials who rescued him. I also ask residents to report any criminal activities in the area," he said.
He asked locals to shun from engaging in crime.
