A 27-year- old single mother has appealed to local leaders to help her restrain her father from selling off a piece of land which she claims her late mother left to her. Philis Kaloki, a mother of two, says that by the time she inherited the parcel from her mother, she had separated with her father. In a letter addressed to the area chief Mary Kamau and which was seen by this writer, Kaloki alleges that her father has given her a notice to vacate from the family’s house and plot in Mawanga estate in Nakuru town because the property is on sale. The employee of a local entertainment spot however wants the government to intervene and protect her against her father, who she says had since deserted the family after marrying another woman. “I am a single mother of two young children without a stable employment. My late mother left me in charge of this property as the only remaining member of her family after my sister died some few years before she too died. “As a single mother with little earnings, I have nowhere to go for shelter with my children and two cousins who have stayed in this house and plot for long with my late mother. “I am appealing to the government and members of society to intervene and restrain my father from selling the property and subjecting me to displacement,” read the letter in part. Contacted for comment, the chief said she would consult other leaders in the area and summon the family members to try and solve the matter which she however termed “tricky”.
