A middle aged woman received a thorough beating after she was allegedly found in possession of witchcraft items.
The incident happened in Masimba shopping center, Nyaribari Masaba Kisii County on Thursday evening.
Witnesses said the woman identified as Bochere who hails from Bariri village in Bobasi was found with herbal ash, chicken feathers, human hair and a red handkerchief in her handbag.
"We spotted her drop a feather and some ash, which made us cautious and asked her to open her handbag," said Ann Nyangaresi a local.
They then decided to go back with her to her cousin's place where she had spent her night and found a hole dug right on the doorstep of the house.
Ms Nyangaresi then said that they raised alarm and angry locals descended on the lady.
"She tried to run away but members of the public arrested her, gave her a serious beating before she revealed what her plans were," she said.
Mr Chris Moikoyo the victim's cousin said that he was shocked and has never thought that she was capable pf doing that.
Area Chief identified as Nyamari confirmed the incident saying that she intervened and saved the life of the lady.
"We decided to send the woman back to her native home as we hold talks with the family," he said.
