A woman aged 62 years died after she fell into hot illicit brew commonly known as ‘kangara’.
The incident happened on Sunday in Omonayo village, Mokomoni North Mugirango, Nyamira County.
Witnesses said the deceased identified as Agnes was helping her neighbor to boil kangara to produce chang’aa when she fell into the hot illicit brew.
“Agnes fell into the hot illicit brew while she was helping her neighbor in boiling changaa. She sustained serious burn injuries on her thighs, stomach, hands and legs,” said Teresa Siebi.
Mrs. Siebi said Agnes was rushed to Nyamira County hospital for treatment where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Area assistant chief identified as Maurice confirmed the incident and said the deceased and her neighbor have been in several occasions been warned against making and selling chang’aa but they could hardly take the warnings seriously.
“We have always raided the home where the deceased fell into hot kangara and destroyed illicit brew and warned them to stop but they will not hear. It is sad that we have lost Agnes due to ignorance,” he said.
The local administrator warned locals against engaging in illicit trade saying the law will not bend for them.
The chief said the deceased body was taken to Nyamira County Hospital mortuary.
