The incident happened in Omonono village, Borabu Nyamira County.

It is alleged that the woman identified as Jane, has been locking her neighbor’s daughter in her house to help her drop from school at a tender age.

"We didn’t believe that Jane has been locking the girl in her house for the last 2 weeks while her parents were looking for her to go to school.

"She was caned so that she doesn’t repeat similar mistakes to other people’s children in the area,” said Gladys Morumbe.

Area Nyumba Kumi official Robert Obiye said the woman upon questioning said girl who is in form 2 was hiding in her house because her parents were forcing to go to school.

“Children should be allowed to go to school because the government is offering free day secondary and primary education.

"Parents condoning their children to stay at home during school time will be arrested and prosecuted,” threatened Obiye.

He added that no child will be allowed to roister around the village during school time.
