A middle-aged woman was on Monday charged at Kisii Law Courts for being in possession of the outlawed illicit liquor.

The prosecution told the court that the accused Dorcas Nyamwamu was nabbed on Sunday by police officers for being in possession of over 380 litres of illicit brews.

The court also heard that the accused has been making and selling illicit liquor without a valid license. 

Appearing before Magistrate E.A Obina the accused denied the charges levelled against him. 

She pleaded with the court to release her on bond citing that she is the only sole breadwinner the family. 

Magistrate Obina released the accused on a Sh100,000 bond and warned her against skipping court proceedings. 

The case will be mentioned on April 9 and be heard on August 2.

Police officers in Kisii County have intensified a crackdown on illicit liquor after Interior Cs Fred Matiang’i issued ordered directing police to arrest all illicit brewers across the country a few months ago.
