A woman in Nairobi has been charged with killing her own nine-month-old son and cremating the body.
Ms Margaret Nduta testified that she cremated the body of her son at Uhuru Park using rags and torn clothes.
She said she opted for cremation of her son Said Hassan Juma Karanja because she did not have money to cater for the funeral.
“Police found Ms Nduta sitting next to the burning body of the boy at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on June 27 2016,” prosecution told the court.
According to police records, Ms Nduta allegedly killed her son due to a prolonged sickness.
When police came to arrest her, court was told, the mother of five did not flee.
“She sat watching the body of her son burn,” the investigating officer said in a statement to court.
The accused also told court that she hails from a family of eight siblings but she has no knowledge of their whereabouts.
Magistrate Francis Andayi ordered that she be taken for a mental examination.
“Besides the medical report also a probation officers report is necessary in respect of the accused,” he ruled.
Nduta is charged with burning Karanja on June 27, 2016 using clothes at Nairobi's Uhuru Park.
