Phidelis Mutisya was arraigned in court  after she was arrested for allegedly stealing the bananas on Tuesday.

The court heard that Mutisya stole the bananas at a fruits stall in Githeundu Market when the owner of the business premise, Ndinda Mutuku was away having lunch at a nearby hotel.

Mutisya is said to had taken advantage of Mutuku's absence to pluck off the bananas and stuffed them inside her bag before walking away.

Unfortunately, a 15-year-old boy saw her and screamed alerting other traders in the market who arrested her and indeed found the bananas in her bag.

She was taken to a nearby police station where she recorded a statement before being arraigned in court.

Mutisya appeared before the Machakos Resident Magistrate Eve Wambogo who released her on a Sh10,000 cash bail pending hearing of her case on April 10.

"How do you get the courage to steal four bananas?" one of the traders at Githeundu market, Agnes Muthoki questioned.

"If she was hungry she would have asked for help. How much are four bananas? I would have volunteered to buy them for her. It's a shame," Muthoki added.

She said justice should take its course stating the woman should be jailed to serve as an example to other criminals.
