A woman who quarreled with her father-in-law committes suicide on Monday morning.

The incident has shocked residents of Ikenye village, Kisii County who say the woman only identified as Nyarangi differed with the ageing man because of sukumawiki.

"The man demanded that she gives her money she had used in purchasing kales after she failed to purchase what he had sent her which led to a confrontation," said Mr Oscar Achachi, a neighbor.

However, Mr James Ongworo a clan elder said that the woman is known for her drinking habits.

"She consumes illicit brew and does not want anyone to question her about it. It is unfortunate that she decided to take her own life," said Mr Ongworo.

He further said that it is due to her drinking habits that her husband opted to marry another lady whom he lives with in Nairobi.

"She is fond of selling food from the house and going for cheap liquor. That is what made the man to question her," he said.

Mr Simon Mbwayo the area assistant chief said that they took the body of the deceased and took it to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

"We have a challenge here of locals selling illicit brew and we are giving a stern warning to anyone who will be found will blame themselves," he said.
