Police in Naivasha are probing an incident where a middle-aged woman committed suicide after her husband allegedly squandered more than Sh50,000 she had borrowed from a Sacco.
The body of the woman was found hanging from a tree in Kwa Muhia estate along the Moi South Lake road on Tuesday.
Police said that the woman’s husband, who is in custody and helping with investigations, allegedly squandered the money on drinks.
Confirming the incident, area deputy OCPD Agnes Amojong said the mother of two had taken a loan from a Sacco with the aim of starting a business.
“We are investigating the suicide and hope to find appropriate reasons that led to the death,” she said.
According to residents, the woman’s husband is a habitual alcoholic and that he often has no time for his family.
Marion Kamau, a resident, said that she received the news of her friend’s death with shock, adding that the deceased had great plans of improving the social-economic welfare of her family.
The deceased worked in a flower farm in Naivasha town. Her body was taken to the Naivasha sub-county hospital.
