According to residents, the deceased identified as Agnes Siso consumed poison after she was released from Gesonso police station where she was taken for making and selling illicit brew.
“Agnes was arrested after over 100 liters of illicit brew chang’aa was seized at her house on Friday night. She was taken to Gesonso police station and later released on a Sh15,000 cash bail. When she arrived at her home, she consumed poison because she could not withstand the loss she incurred after the chief poured the chang’aa she was selling,” said Dennis Oremo, a resident.
Momanyi Omwansa, a Nyumba Kumi official said family members tried to persuade the deceased to stop committing suicide but in vain.
"Her family tried to stop her from taking poison but in vain. She kept on saying she had loans to repay but she will not have money to pay because her business has been closed down,” said Omwansa.
Her body was taken to Nyangena Hospital mortuary.
