An elderly woman in Kikuyu, Kiambu County is now seeking the intervention of Lands CS Charity Ngilu, after her land was allegedly grabbed by his cousin, who she had left to man the land after going for greener pastures in Rift Valley.
Ruth Wanjiku, who was residing in Eldoret was a victim of post-election violence, which left her decamp to her former residence.
It is said that John Gakuri, his cousin who had been mandated with the task of looking after her ‘shamba’ denied her access to her home on return from Rift Valley.
The effort of involving elderly people from Ruthimitu area, where the land is located has been futile, and as she says, further delays will suppress her future.
“This land was mine; I only employed this grandson to check on its whereabouts while I was away. I have tried to involve this area elders to convince him allow me in but their efforts have born no fruit,” she said.
She is urging the cabinet secretary for Lands Charity Ngilu to intervene and bring the row to an end.
“I am humbly requesting land minister to help me get back my land, I want to rear my grandchildren in peace,” said the woman.
Land issues have been on the rise in Kenya, and what the grandmother is waiting is prevalence of justice.
