A Nairobi court charged and released a pastor on a Sh2 million bond or a cash bail of Sh500,000 for fraud.
Reverend Evelyn Auma reportedly defrauded Prophet David Owuor's Ministry of Holiness and Repentance Church money amounting to over Sh4 million in 2016.
Appearing before Milimani Senior Principal magistrate Charity Oluoch on June 24, 2016, allegedly unlawfully obtained Sh4.932 million from Kings Outreach church, an affiliate of Ministry of Holiness and Repentance Church.
She allegedly committed the offence between April 29 and May 30, 2016 by lying that she could conduct a countrywide registration of the church.Auma, who was a reverend at the Kings Outreach church during hearing of the case denied the charges.
The move followed an incident where an impostor who occasionally posed as Prophet David Owour on his Facebook account, was arraigned in a Mombasa court on April 5, 2017.
Donald Odede, an alleged owner of a fake Facebook account ‘nabii daktari David Owour, was accused of claiming to have healed Roseline Achieng, a HIV + woman alongside her child through prayers.
Appearing before Mombasa Resident Magistrate Viola Yator, Achieng narrated how she received phone calls from friends asking her why she confessed about her HIV status and agreed to share her photos.
However, the accused told the court that he received cash by Achieng's business rival to spread the allegations but never intended to ruin her reputation.
He was later released on a Sh80,000 bond.
