Residents of Makao Estate within Nakuru town this morning beat up and arrested a middle aged woman whom they accused of risking lives of her two minors.
They claimed that the accused usually lock up those minors in her house while she is away running errands.
An eye witness Deborah Wanjiku a resident of the Estate told this writer that the single woman identified as Mary Mwende who works as a part time house maid in the neighbouring Teachers Estate has been locking up her three and one year old children in the house when she goes away to carry out her house help chores in the neighbourhood.
The eye witness said that neighbours and relatives of the woman had in the past warned her against the habit but she has never changed.
“Neighbours have been complaining that the children cry from the house for the better part of the day causing nuisance. They also go without food, wet themselves and feed on their excretion,’’ alleged Wanjiku.
She added that the enraged residents led by the Landlord had ambushed the woman as she made to move out of the Estate’s gate after locking her children in the house as usual.
Agness Mukami Also a resident of the Estate who sells second hand clothes at Makao Business Centre said tha the woman was beaten up by the irate mob and forced to open the house for the residents to rescue the children.
“She was frog matched to Police Station carrying the children while complaining of interference by members of the public into her personal affairs. Her grandmother took away the children after she was locked up in Police cell,’’ said Mukami.
Police in charge of the local Teachers Police Post Mercy Musyoka confirmed the incident and said that Police had started investigating the incident to establish enough evidence to sustain prosecution.
