A woman aged 33 has drowned in River Thika in Yatta, Machakos County.

Veronica Ndunge fell into the river and died when washing clothes on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident, Yatta Police boss Eric Ng'etich said the deceased was suffering from epileptic before her demise.

"She is around 33 years. She was doing her laundry when the tragedy befell her at Thika river," Ng'etich said.

Ng'etich said the woman suffered an epileptic attack while washing her clothes and fell into the waters.

He said her floating body was discovered by members of the public who raised alarm.

"No one was around at the time of the incident, the body was discovered floating by residents who reported the matter," Ng'etich said.

Ng'etich said the police had commenced investigations into the incident.

The body was removed to Matuu Mediance mortuary.

Ng'etich warned residents against leaving their epileptic kins unattended since tragedy might strike and be fatal.

"Ensure your kins who are epileptic are accompanied anywhere they go in a bid to avoid tragedies like this," Ng'etich concluded.
