A body of a middle-aged woman was on Tuesday found dumped at Tala market in Matungulu, Machakos County.
Confirming the incident, Tala chief Pius Nzioka said there is a high probability the woman was raped before being murdered.
Nzioka said the body was discovered a few meters from Tala dam where used condoms were found next to it.
"I was notified of the incidence where the body of the woman was found dumped near Tala dam, she was raped before being murdered by unknown people," Nzioka said.
He said no suspect had been apprehended though police have launched investigations into the matter.
The body was removed by police officers to Kangundo Level Four Hospital mourtuary.
Nzioka urged the residents to be vigilant with the kind of people they walk with at night in a bid to ensure their security.
" Be careful with the people you meet at bars or places of entertainment for your own security ensure you don't accompany unknown people to undisclosed places," Nzioka said.
He said the residents should adhere to the policy passed by security agents of no movement after 11.00 pm at night.
