The court heard that the accused, Gladys Wamaitha, stole the baby on July 5 at Kiamunyeki area, Nakuru County, in a bid to prove to her boyfriend, Boniface Ondiku, that she had borne him a child.

Wamaitha, is said to have fled to her boyfriend's home in Kiti area, where she was arrested by CID officers a month later.

Wamaitha was charged with denying the child's parents; Grace Wanjiru and Lawrence Waweru the care of their child.

On Monday, Nakuru Chief Magistrate Josephat Burudi ruled that the pre-sentence report indicated that the accused was not suitable for probation.

"Parents of the minor went through a lot of pain for a month after they lost their baby girl. Her act is unjustified and she deserves four years in jail," said Burudi, as quoted by The Star.

Wamaitha has 14 days to appeal.
