It is reported that the mother delivered the twins who share vital body organs on Thursday at the facility.

Addressing journalists at the hospital's intensive care wing, Mr Iqbal Khandwalla, the Chief Hospital Administrator, said the conjoined twins weighed 4.6 kilograms at birth.

Doctors at the facility referred them to the Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment and attention.

Khandwalla also noted that the babies were delivered after a successful cesarean section which was done on Thursday morning.

The administrator further explained that preliminary scan tests had revealed that the newborns were co-joined from the abdomen downwards.

The twins are reported to share one kidney and liver but their hearts are separate.

The hospital management has since contacted the Amref Medical flying Emergency team to facilitate the airlifting of the twins to Nairobi for further tests and a possible operation to separate them.

The mother, is however, reported to be in stable condition.

This comes a week after conjoined twins were delivered in Kisii but died before they could undergo operation at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
