Nancy Wanjiru is said to have cut the minor's fingers after she accused her of stealing two cigarettes on September 1, 2016.

The hotel waitress also faced a second count of giving false information to the police regarding the incident.

According to the prosecution, the accused returned home in the night and discovered that her two cigarettes were missing.

Records indicate that Wanjiku insisted to the authorities that her 13-year old daughter had smoked the cigarettes, charges she denied before chief magistrate Heston Nyaga and was released on a cash bail of Sh15,000.

The case will be heard on January 25, 2017.
