A woman was on Wednesday arraigned in court to answer to charges of allegedly trying to steal an infant from the Garissa Referral Hospital on Monday night.
According to the prosecution, Asha Mohamed had allegedly posed as a nurse attached to the hospital and but later took away baby Abdirahman from his biological mother.
Asha denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Wachira Margaret who remanded her until August 30 when the case will be mentioned.
The detaining of the suspect is meant to enable the prosecution clear investigations into the matter.
The prosecution wanted the suspect to be detained until September 20 but the magistrate declined.
For Asha, her request to have the court re-schedule and hear her case in two days, but the judge rejected the plea saying it was not possible due to his tight diary that ought to be strictly adhered to.
