A woman in Muthurumbi, Gatundu was rushed to hospital in critical condition after her husband descended on her with a knife injuring her private parts badly on Wednesday.
According to the area Assistant Chief Jecinta Wairuri, the woman was saved by police officers from the family house where she had been left unconscious.
"She was saved by police officers after residents reported to have heard a commotion from the homestead," Wairure said.
She adds: "The woman was in a very bad state and could not even walk. She had fainted after losing much blood".
Residents say that the man is a perpetual drunkard and suspects he could have been under the influence when he committed the act.
"He drinks like a fish and is fond of picking quarrels with people for no good reason," John Maina, a neighbour said.
The assistant chief says that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the perpetrator of the heinous act.
The woman is recuperating at Gatundu District hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.
