The Wednesday mid-morning incident that occurred in Esise village left villagers with a lot to ponder following serious injuries that the woman sustained.

According to a witnesses, Mr Alfred Ogamba, who has since been arrested and taken to Keroka police station, found Mrs Mary Mokua on his farm and decided to beat her on grounds that  she was there illegally.

Mrs Mokua was rescued by area villagers who subsequently took her to Nyansiongo hospital following serious head injuries she sustained.

“I saw him (Ogamba) descending on her before throwing her down on the floor. Of course, she was at his garden but I am not sure whether she had permission. We rescued her and took her to hospital,” said Winnie Abuga.

“I heard the owner accusing her of being there illegally but the victim was shouting that she had been allowed by the man’s wife who wasn’t really there at the time of incident,” she said.

Area chief Wycliffe Okenye confirmed the incident and warned area residents from talking the law into their hands.

“It is a sad moment that someone can be injured following a small issue like this that can be solved through negotiations. Residents must desist from taking the law into their own hands,” he said.
