Teresia Muthoni appeared before chief magistrate, Stephen Mbungi, where she was charged for attempting to commit suicide; Muthoni pleaded guilty to the charge.

In mitigation Muthoni said that she has been oppressed for a very long time by his husband hence trying to commit suicide.

In his verdict the magistrate said that despite challenges one is facing it is against the law to commit suicide. She was sentenced for two years jail term.

Muthoni was charged alongside her husband Victor Gitonga who was charged of neglecting his family and oppressing his wife.

Gitonga was put on two years’ probation and he will be liable of their five children while the wife will be in prison.

The man said that he has no stable salary to cater for the family but the prosecution asked the court to hold him liable as he was the main cause of his wife trying to commit suicide.

The courts gave an order that the children should be kept under the observation of Thika children’s office.

He was further warned that he will be accountable of anything happens to the children.
