A 28-year-old woman was on Monday night shot dead in Likoni during a robbery staged by armed gangsters.
According to the police, the gang staged robberies in three M-Pesa outlets in town, killing Ethel Murunde, before fleeing on a motorbike,.
Police said the deceased was shot three times by the gangster who made away with Sh90,000. Three spent cartridges were recovered from the scene.
"We believe the same gang that stole Sh20,000 and killed a bar attendant in Ushindi in Club Riana's last month is the same one that committed these robberies. We are yet to establish whether the rifle that constable Alexandar Kipyegomen lost which was loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition was the same one that was used," Likoni deputy police boss Anthony Shimoli told a local radio station.
Cases of M-Pesa theft have escalated in the coastal region with Kilifi town operators calling for enhanced security for their businesses.
Another M-Pesa was stolen in Changamwe, and a by stander in the nearby car wash was shot dead when he tried to raise alarm.
