A woman was on Friday lynched for allegedly poisoning her grandchild.
The incident happened in Nyabera village, South Mugirango in Kisii County.
Area assistant chief David Onyoni confirmed the incident said the deceased identified as Clementina Ngare was set ablaze by an angry mob after she was suspected to have killed her grandchild.
"The woman is said to have given the child poisoned food. The police have started investigations into the matter," he said.
The chief said he rushed to the scene but it was too late because the deceased had already been burnt to death.
He warned locals to seize from taking actions into their own hands saying it would lead to more chaos than giving a solution to social problems.
"The police will also arrest those who were involved in the murder of the woman," said the chief.
The local administrator said the woman’s body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary.
