A middle aged woman was on Tuesday morning lynched by a group of unknown persons who alleged she was a witch.
Jane Moraa from Kiogoro location in Kisii County was hacked by the youths using machetes claiming that she had antagonised the neighbourhood.
“They are punishing her on witchcraft grounds as she has been warned several times. This woman was dangerous and we are happy that she has been eliminated,” one resident said.
According to the residents, Moraa was allegedly behind the sudden death of a school boy who died last week and they were ‘fed up with her witchcraft’, hence decided to take a step for ‘sanity and peaceful coexistence’ in the area.
Kisii police boss Tom Mutisya confirmed the incident and warned residents against taking such measures that deny them a chance to investigate.
“We have taken the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral mortuary. Residents should desist from breaching the law and infringing on other people’s rights. They ought to have reported the matter to relevant authorities,” Mutisya said.
He condemned the incident terming it barbaric and primitive.
