A woman has been murdered in Mlolongo town, Machakos County.
The body belonging to a middle-aged woman was found dumped at an abandoned house in the town on Tuesday.
Confirming the incident, Mlolongo chief Peter Ndunda said the unidentified woman was reportedly raped before she was killed by her perpetrators.
Ndunda said the body was discovered by members of the public who later notified him of the incident.
"She is between 40-50 years, her body had bruises and signs of rape. She had been dumped near a dumpsite in an abandoned building just a few meters from the Family Bank building in Mlolongo town," Ndunda said.
He said no one had been arrested in connection with the murder though police have launched investigations into the matter.
Police removed the body to City mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.
Ndunda issued a stern warning that stringent measures will be taken against anyone found involved in criminal activities.
"We won't tolerate criminal gangs terrorizing residents, we will work round the clock to ensure security is enhanced and criminals brought to book," Ndunda said.
