A middle aged woman has been arrested for growing bhang contrary to the law in Machakos County.

Police on Thursday uprooted bushes of bhang on a farm and nabbed the woman suspected to had planted the outlawed plant.

The suspect is accused of planting bhang in a small piece of land at her home in Kateve village, Machakos Sub County.

Confirming the incident, Kasinga assistant chief Robin Wambua said the police acted on a tip off from members of the public.

 "Members of the public after learning of the activities notified the police who sang into action immediately," Wambua said.

Wambua lauded the residents for the brave move and swore to do away with drug peddlers in the region.

"Together with Nyumba kumi members we will do a thorough crackdown on drug peddling," he said.

Wambua said the woman has been detained at Machakos Police Station and will be arraigned in court tomorrow.
