To Grace Mwikali, this day will remain among the worst days in her life.
This is the day she nearly lost her tongue to attackers.
On the wake of May 25, 2018, Mwikali was allegedly attacked by unknown people leaving her in a comma at Tumaini Pub in Makindu, Machakos County.
The 25-year-old woman says she woke up outside the pub several hours after the attack, only to find part of her tongue dangling outside her mouth with blood oozing.
"What followed after is still a mystery to me because I cannot remember anything but can recall holding up my tongue from falling with blood oozing from my mouth at wee hours," Mwikali said.
The mother of two was narrating the story to Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau when she visited her at Mkindu Level 4 Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Mwau condemned the attack promising that action must be taken on whoever found responsible.
"If they are found guilty, let them be prosecuted and serve their punishment," Mwau said.
She said alcohol can be dangerous as it makes them more vulnerable to attacks and rape.
According to the Kibwezi Sub-county Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Dr. Khalid, Mwikali is responding well to medication.
