A woman who last week admitted stealing a four-day-old baby on Wednesday recanted her plea after the prosecution read the circumstances under which she allegedly committed the offence.
Christine Atieno refuted the prosecution’s facts about the incident after they were read before Winam resident magistrate Jared Sala.
The magistrate entered a plea of not guilty after the Atieno said some of the facts were false. “Some things are true while others are not,” she said.
The case in which Ms Atieno is jointly charged with her husband Sunga Luo will now proceed to hearing with witnesses being summoned to testify. She was released on Sh500,000 bond with two sureties of a similar amount.
Luo is also out on similar bond terms having denied the charge. The two will reappear in court for hearing of the case on November 17.
The charge read that on October 15, she stole the baby at Tuskys supermarket in Kisumu.
