Igonga administration police boss Nicholas Omondi said that the woman identified as Kang'ina Kachuru injured the baby before she fled to an unknown place.

"The suspect found the child sleeping in her grandmother’s house where she hit the minor with a blunt object as she tried to kill her. Fortunately, the grandmother who had left the kid in the house found the suspect hitting the minor with the object,” said Omondi.

The police boss said the child’s grandmother has already recorded a statement with the police.

“We are hunting the suspect who is still at large. Members of the public should report the suspect to the police so that she can be easily arrested to be charged in court over the assault,” he said.

The child is in a critical condition and currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, ICU at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
