A woman aged 26-years was found dead after being raped and burnt with acid in a maize plantation in Nyaribari Chache.

The body of Joscah Kemunto was discovered by her mother who had gone to cut Napier grass.

"She went to Keumbu market on Monday never returned home in the evening," said Pacifica Moraa, the deceased mother.

The mother added that the family launched a search on Tuesday morning but all was in vain since her phone was switched off.

"We assumed she will come back but she it was not to be," said Moraa.

Moraa noted that at around 6 pm on Tuesday, she went to her maize plantation and discovered a sack of fertilizer, beans and a jembe.

"I found her lying dead with injuries on her neck, legs, and hands, her skirt was torn in pieces," she narrated.

Kisii police commander Hassan Abdi said police have launched investigations following the killing.

Her body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Mortuary.
