A woman's body was found at a village in Wundanyi with multiple injuries on the head and some hair pulled out.
Lushangonyi villagers reported the matter to the police that the woman was raped and killed on her way home on Thursday, after dropping her children off at Lushangonyi Primary School.
The deceased was ambushed near a forest while collecting firewood on her way back home.
Mgange Mwanda MCA Anselm Mwadime condemned the incident and asked police in the area to deal with the suspects of sexual abuse.
“Residents combed the forest and arrested a suspect who was taken to Mgange police post pending charges. We hope the suspect will face the full wrath of the law," Mwadime said.
According to the villagers, the suspect's belonging including clothes and shoes were found in the forest.
They claimed that the suspect rushed to his nearby home and cleaned up after committing the crime.
Wundanyi deputy OCS Christopher Lang’at assured that the matter will be addressed with urgency.
“We shall make sure we get to the bottom of this matter since such incidents have become common in this area," said Lang'at.
