The girlfriend to a Dutchman killed last year has told the court that her late lover had complained to her severally about a series of break-ins in his Nyali home before his death.
Elizabeth Wahinya told Justice Asenath Ongeri of the High Court that Jacobus Van de Goes had looked absent minded and unfocused during one of their evening dates.“I would say something and repeat it several times to get his concentration on different occasions,” she said.Wahinya told the court that Goes later disclosed to her the frequent burglary cases at his Nyali home. She also said the man wrote down some family and close friend’s contacts just in case anything bad occurred.Goes’ body was discovered in a septic tank near his home after a five-month search.“Jack told me he lost money and some tools, and that his health had become poor,” Wahinya said. She also said the deceased told her that his health had worsened and was spending a lot of money on treatment. She said the gardener was the only person she would see whenever she visited Goes at his residence.John Ochieng’, Joseph Ogolla and Stephen Okoth together with others still at large were charged in court for allegedly killing Goes between January 4 and 6, 2016.The three denied the charges and are being remanded at Shimo la Tewa prison.Goes’ daughter, Ingrid, at a previous court session said Goes’ gardener had withdrawn Sh300,000 from her father’s bank account using his Automated Teller Machine card.
